Advanced Systems Based on Micro CDS/ISIS
The Institute for Computer and
Information Engineering has developed a technology allowing
one for developing advanced information systems based on the
Micro CDS/ISIS engine.
On top of Micro CDS/ISIS we have implemented a set of advanced
software tools which enable us to, inter alia,:
- support the Entity-Relationship Data Model;
- define local and global on-line validation of data, which
provides a robust syntactic and semantic control of data,
and facilitates the process of data input/update and
verification;
- define easy access to specific lookup tables, thesauri
and/or dictionaries during data entry/update process in
order to select relevant terms from the table and
transfer them to specified fields. Even a structured
thesaurus may be browsed to locate proper descriptors
while indexing; emulate network/graph data models (within
ISIS) by implementing automatically linkages between
various types of records; establish a user/friendly
search/browse/display interface;
- establish a general purpose pull-down menu system for
Micro CDS/ISIS applications, equipped with HELP
facilities, bulletin boards, tutorials, etc.;
- prepare a sophisticated printed output in RTF, HTML,
LATEX and other formats form from a Micro CDS/ISIS
database.
The software is available for both stand alone and LAN
applications. Search and Browse functions are available under
UNIX and can be used for telneting. Those tools have been used by
us in the development of a number of products for UN agencies
(UNIDO, UNESCO, UNEP, FAO), OeFSE in Austria, Naturhistorische
Museum in Vienna and many others.
